Resistance training benefits the elderly.

August 11, 2014 by Paul

Spanish researchers have shown that people in their 90s respond incredibly well to strength training. Subjects with an age range between 91 and 96, underwent 12 weeks of resistance training exercise and showed improvements in their strength, power and muscle mass.

This transfered to improvements in walking speed, a reduction in falls and an increased ability to get out of chairs.

With aging comes a reduction in physical activity and a concomitant increase in frailty. It seems that if you implement an appropriate exercise programme, frailty may be optional.
